Continuous Beep Sound When Calling Someone

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

  • What is the Version and Build of Windows 10 installed on the PC? (Type winver in Windows search/Run command)

  • When you say Messenger app, then which app are you using?

  • Are you aware of any changes on the PC prior to this issue?

Step 1: Reset Messenger app

  1. Press Windows + I key to open Windows Settings.

  2. Click on Apps and select Apps & feature from the left pane.

  3. Scroll and look for the Messengerapp.

  4. Select the app and click on Advanced option.

  5. Click on Reset and once you see a tick mark, then relaunch and check.

Step 2:  Clean boot

Try booting your PC in clean boot. Refer to the article on How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note:Clean Boot starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program. Also, you may not be able to use some programs in clean boot.

If performing a clean boot fixes the issue then, please refer to the section How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot to check which program is causing the issue.

Note: Please refer the section Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting to boot the computer in to normal mode after troubleshooting.

Let us know the results. If the issue persists, we will certainly assist you further.

Thank you for your prompt reply.  I Reset the App and today it worked without the beeping.  However, I had previously done that and the beeping still occurred.  So, while still a bit skeptical that the problem has been resolved, I thank you for your input and will let you know if it has been a permanent or temporary fix.

Here's an update.  The other day, after doing a Reset, it worked fine with no beeping.  Tonight, was the second time I did a group Messenger video session and, once again, the beeping reoccured.  I left the group, reset the App again, went back to the group whom were all still on together and NO beeping.  So, I can't tell until the next group meeting but it seems that after a reset, the first time is good, but subsequent times will beep again.  Unfortunately, I won't be on a group text for another week but in the meantime, if you have any other suggestions, I would appreciate it.  Thanks.

Hope you are healthy & doing good in this Pandemic situation.

We would suggest you to create a new user account with administrative rights and install Messenger app to check if the issue occurs. Creating a new user account will not remove any data, app or settings from your current user account, this is just a troubleshooting steps to eliminate the possibility of user profile corruption. Refer this article tocreate a local user or administrator account in Windows 10

Hi Aditya,

I tried following your instructions to reset the Messenger app but when I click on the App in "Apps & Features", there is no "Advanced options" option. I have that option for some Apps and it doesn't appear in others. Please advise, thanks.

That is very strange.  The words "Advanced Options" are directly under the App name Messenger, then Facebook Inc.  It is not underneath to the right where it says Move or Uninstall.  This is very strange.  I feel it has to do with the new update.  I have not tried creating a New User account yet but have found that if I Reset the App before each session, it works perfectly.  However, it will never work a second time without beeping.  Very weird.  Will try the New User when I get a chance.
